Goodman Heat Pump Service: The Miami Owner’s Guide

Goodman heat pump repair in Miami typically runs $175 – $765 installed, depending on which part failed. We keep the most common Goodman replacement parts on our trucks, so a failed capacitor, contactor, or defrost control board is usually fixed the same day we roll up. If you’ve got a Goodman that’s blowing warm air in August or icing over when it shouldn’t, the odds are good we can pinpoint it in the first thirty minutes and hand you a written price before any work starts.

Most Miami homeowners discover a failed part the hard way: the thermostat says cool, the outdoor unit hums, but the air coming out of the vents is room temperature. Sometimes the compressor runs and the fan doesn’t. Sometimes neither comes on. Each of those points to a specific component, and Goodman units have enough model variation that guessing is expensive. We don’t guess.

Which Goodman Models This Applies To

We service the full Goodman heat pump lineup you’ll find across Miami: the GSZ and GSZB split systems, the DSZC and DSZH higher-efficiency series, plus the packaged units (GPH and GPC prefixes) that sit on the ground or roof of older Coral Gables and Coconut Grove homes. The model number is on the data plate, usually on the back corner of the outdoor unit, and that plate matters. A GSZ14 and a GSZ16 may look identical from the outside but take different motors and control boards, and installing the wrong one means a short-lived repair.

For Goodman specifically, we lead with OEM parts when the unit is under ten years old or the part is board-level. Aftermarket equivalents from names like Genteq and Mars are fine for capacitors and contactors, and they can sometimes beat Goodman’s pricing without losing anything. But Goodman’s defrost boards and ECM blower motors have enough proprietary logic that we’d rather you spend a little more on the correct OEM version than roll the dice on a universal board that doesn’t talk to the unit right. We’ll show you both options with prices and let you decide.

Signs Your Goodman Heat Pump Service Is Failing

  • Outdoor unit runs, house isn’t cooling. This usually means the compressor is running but the reversing valve or metering device isn’t doing its job. In Miami humidity, a unit that cools weakly is often low on refrigerant or has a failing TXV: the valve that controls refrigerant flow into the evaporator coil. Either way, running it while it struggles makes the repair more expensive.
  • Unit trips the breaker repeatedly. A hard-starting compressor or a grounded fan motor will pull more amps than the circuit allows. Don’t keep resetting the breaker: each trip is a message, not a glitch.
  • Frost or ice forming on the outdoor coil in summer. That’s a defrost control board failure or a stuck reversing valve. The unit literally can’t tell whether it should be heating or cooling, so it freezes itself. In South Florida, this is more common than people think.
  • Fan spins slowly or not at all while the compressor runs. That’s your outdoor fan motor or its capacitor. Goodman fan motors in coastal Miami air tend to wear out faster because of salt and constant runtime. A slow-spinning fan drives up head pressure and shortens compressor life.
  • Unit makes a loud buzzing and then nothing. The contactor (the electrical switch that energizes the outdoor unit) has failed, or the capacitor isn’t giving the compressor the starting jolt it needs. Both are straightforward repairs, but not something you want to poke at with the power on.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Goodman heat pump service in Miami falls inside a range of $175 – $765 for most repair jobs. A dual-run capacitor swap might sit at the bottom of that range. A defrost control board or a condenser fan motor runs closer to the middle. A reversing valve replacement, which means evacuating and recharging the system, lands at the top. You’ll see the number in writing before we touch anything. The price on the sheet is the price you pay.

Every Goodman repair we do in Miami includes the part, the labor, the refrigerant if the job calls for it, and a written guarantee that covers the work for a full year. That’s The Garrison Standard: if the repair fails inside 365 days, we come back at no charge. No fine print, no pro-rated nonsense. Marco Benitez built this crew on that principle, and the guarantee is written on every invoice, not offered as an upgrade.

DIY or Call Us?

There are two things you can safely check on a Goodman heat pump before you call: the filter and the breaker. A clogged filter in a Miami summer will make a perfectly good unit act half-dead, and a tripped breaker is sometimes just a power surge. Beyond that, we’d stop. Heat pumps carry 240 volts at the outdoor disconnect, and Goodman capacitors can store a charge even after the breaker is off. Getting that wrong is how a $40 part becomes an emergency room visit. If you’re not sure, call us: we’d rather walk you through it over the phone than have you probing a live unit with a screwdriver.

Marco’s standing line applies here: tell me what it’s doing, I’ll tell you what it costs – in writing, before I touch it. Call (850) 754-6042 and describe the sound, the behavior, the breaker, whatever you’re seeing. We’ll tell you what’s likely wrong and what it’ll run.
