We install Rheem-compatible thermostats across Miami, and the typical installed price runs $225 to $475 depending on the thermostat model and your system’s wiring. In most cases we can have the job done same day. Most Miami homeowners call us after they notice the thermostat’s display fading or the system refusing to hold a set temperature, and by then the unit has usually been misreading the room for weeks. The fix is often faster than people expect: pull the old control, verify the wiring against your Rheem system, mount the new unit, and program it to match your cooling load. We run this job weekly across neighborhoods like Kendall, Cutler Bay, Hialeah, and Coral Gables, and the relief after a fresh thermostat lands is immediate: the system stops short cycling and the house actually cools to the number on the screen.
Which Rheem Models This Applies To
Rheem’s current residential lineup splits into a few thermostat families, and the model number tells you which one you’re dealing with. The EcoNet series (Rheem’s proprietary smart control) pairs with their variable-speed and communicating systems, mostly from 2016 forward. The classic 500 and 800 series thermostats run on standard 24V wiring and work with the bulk of Rheem single-stage and two-stage condensers sold over the last fifteen years. If your outdoor unit has a Comfort Control2 label, you need a communicating thermostat that speaks that protocol, and swapping in a generic Honeywell will not work. That’s the single biggest compatibility gotcha we see in Miami: homeowners buy a $40 thermostat at a big-box store and then discover their Rheem system won’t respond to it. One checkable detail worth knowing: Rheem’s EcoNet thermostats read humidity as well as temperature, which matters in South Florida’s year-round moisture, and a generic replacement often loses that function. We keep OEM Rheem thermostats on the truck along with quality drop-in equivalents that match the wiring and features of the original. Dalton Heating & Air Miami is an independent service provider, not a Rheem dealer or affiliate, so we match the part to your system without any brand pressure.

Signs Your Rheem Thermostat Installation Is Failing
- Display is faint, flickering, or blank. This usually points to a dying backlight, a loose connection behind the faceplate, or the thermostat’s internal battery failing after years of Miami heat exposure. If the batteries are fresh and the display still fades, the unit’s board is on its way out.
- System runs constantly but never reaches the set temperature. The thermostat’s temperature sensor can drift over time, so the unit thinks the room is 74 when it’s actually 77. You’ll see this most often on older Rheem models that have sat on the wall for a decade or more.
- Short cycling: the system kicks on and off every few minutes. A failing thermostat sends scrambled on/off signals, which stresses your compressor and drives up energy use. In Miami’s long cooling season, short cycling kills equipment fast.
- Displayed temperature doesn’t match other thermometers in the house. This is the clearest sign of sensor drift. Put a cheap digital thermometer next to the thermostat overnight and compare the two in the morning.
- Buttons don’t respond or require multiple presses. The tactile contacts under the keypad wear out, especially on units near kitchens or bathrooms where humidity and airborne residue accelerate wear.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
We quote thermostat installation for Rheem systems in Miami as a flat price before we touch the wall, so there’s no surprise at the end of the job. For a straightforward swap on a standard 24V system, expect $225 to $350 including the thermostat and labor. Smart and communicating Rheem EcoNet units run higher, typically $375 to $475 installed, because the hardware costs more and the setup requires matching the control to your system’s exact programming. Every job includes removal of the old thermostat, verification of the wiring at both ends, mounting, programming, and a walkthrough of the new control’s settings. The work is covered by our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if the installation isn’t right, we make it right, and if it fails within the year, we return at no charge. Marco Benitez will tell you the same thing he tells every Miami customer: tell me what it’s doing, and I’ll tell you what it costs in writing before I touch it.
DIY or Call Us?
If your Rheem thermostat is just running on dead batteries, swap them out and reset the unit. That fixes a surprising number of service calls before they become service calls. Beyond that, thermostat work involves 24-volt control wiring, which is low risk compared to line voltage, but the danger isn’t shock: it’s wiring the new unit wrong and taking out your system’s control board or running your compressor without the fan. On Rheem communicating systems, a generic thermostat wired incorrectly can send the wrong signals to a variable-speed compressor, and that repair bill dwarfs what an install costs. We’re set up to do this fast: call (850) 754-6042 and we’ll get a truck to you, usually same day, with the right thermostat already on board.
FAQs
Most Rheem thermostats last 7 to 12 years in Miami’s climate before the sensor drift or keypad wear becomes noticeable. Humidity and direct sun through south-facing windows shorten that window, so homes in Coral Gables and Coconut Grove often see failures on the earlier end of that range. Call (850) 754-6042 if yours is acting up, and we’ll tell you honestly whether it’s worth replacing the thermostat or chasing a different problem.
In most cases no. The internal boards, sensors, and keypad contacts on a Rheem thermostat are not serviceable parts, and opening the unit typically voids any remaining warranty. Battery and battery-terminal replacement is about all that’s practical, and once the display or sensor fails, replacement is the economical fix. We can quote a swap over the phone and have it done same day in most Miami neighborhoods.
A standard Rheem thermostat swap takes one to two hours from arrival to cleanup, including wiring verification and programming. Communicating EcoNet units take closer to two hours because the system pairing and setup steps are more involved. We arrive inside the stated window and leave the site clean, per The Garrison Code we run every job by.
Yes. We carry OEM Rheem thermostats and compatible drop-in equivalents for standard 24V systems on our service trucks in Miami. That means most calls are same-day jobs, and we carry parts for Rheem systems alongside Carrier, Trane, and Lennox equipment. One call to (850) 754-6042 gets you a written price and a same-day slot if you want it.
